MacWet Ambassador Gary Wolstenholme MBE started his Senior Tour season in spectacular fashion as he got his 2012 campaign off to a winning start with a two-stroke victory in the Mallorca Senior Open.
Having won the award for Senior Tour Rookie of the Year last year after finishing fourth in the Order of Merit, Gary has stamped his authority on the 2012 season by winning his second Senior Tour title in the first event of this season.
Wolstenholme held off tough competition from South African Chris Williams, Australia's Mike Harwood and England's Paul Wesselingh in order to claim the title at Pula Golf Club. Following an opening round of 70, Gary played some superb golf at the weekend with rounds of 66 and 69 to finish on the 8 under par total of 205.
Harwood, Wesselingh and Williams finished the tournament tied for second, two shots back on 207, with former European Tour stalwarts Barry Lane, Andrew Oldcorn and Ross Drummond also featuring in the top ten.
The winner's cheque for €30,000 sees Gary begin the season in pole position at the top of the Senior Tour Order of Merit, and is the perfect preparation ahead of the first major of the season, the US Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores, Benton Harbor, Michigan.
"Everything just clicked into place," said Wolstenholme. "I came with no expectations so I cannot tell you how delighted I am. This is a genuine bonus."
MacWet would like to congratulate Gary on his success on the European Senior Tour on wishes him the same form for his upcoming games!
