The Madeira Islands Open, Portugal took place over the weekend which was hosted at the Clube de Golf do Santo da Serra. This tournament allows players from lower categories to enter, giving them the opportunity to be exerted into the limelight for the chance to be placed amongst the European Tour’s elite.
With the weather causing a storm all week, the course was reduced to a straight 36 hole shootout with a round one cut. The lead switched from Daniel Brooks and Scott Henry numerous times and many thought the tournament was done when Brooks went three shots clear with only four holes left to play. Despite the brilliant play from both Henry and Brooks, a par from Brooks meant he secured the title in the end!
Scott’s 2nd place finish meant he managed to get into the Open de Espana next week where hopefully he will secure a title!
Highlights of the tournament are on Sky Sports 4 on Wednesday 14th May at 7.30pm.
Unfortunately, the memories were not all happy from the weekend. Alastair Forsyth’s caddie, Iain McGregor, passed away after a heart attack, MacWet are deeply saddened by this news and our condolences go out to his family and friends.
